Our Story

The Church of the Good Shepherd, Monkstown (COGS) is a diverse and welcoming church family that embraces individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Whether you live locally or travel from farther afield, you’ll find us to be a warm, informal, and relaxed community where everyone is welcome.

COGS is a Single Congregation Local Covenant Partnership, officially recognised since 2006. It was formed through the merger of the original Church of Ireland and Methodist congregations in Monkstown under a joint church scheme.

After much prayer, discernment, and heartfelt discussion, the two congregations united in a covenant partnership in March 2003. This partnership, known as “United for Mission in Monkstown,” includes Monkstown Church of Ireland Parish in the Connor Diocese and Monkstown Methodist Church within the Newtownabbey Circuit and North Eastern District.

Our ministers alternate between denominations, and we fully engage with both traditions as a unified church community.

We as a church are passionate about people; coming to Jesus, becoming like Jesus, and living like Jesus.
